O-1: Impaired Reproductive Parameters ofMale Rats Infected with Toxoplasma Gondii
Authors
Abstract:
Background: Toxoplasma gondii is a protozoan parasite that infects up to a third of the world’s population. Toxoplasmosis is one of the classical conditions known to have a profound adverse effect on human reproductive functions, but a few investigations on male reproductive parameters were done. The aim of this investigation is Study on the effects of Toxoplasma gondii on reproductive parameters in male rats. Materials and Methods: A total of 56 male rats divided into infected group (IG) and control group (CG). The RH strain of T. gondii tachyzoites were injected interaperitoneally in an infected group of 35 rats, while 21 rats were used as controls. On days 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 post-injection (PI), 5 rats from infected group and 3 rats from control group were anesthetized. The percentage of body weight to testis weight ratio (BTR) as well as epididymal sperm parameters (motility, viability, number and morphology) was investigated. Results: BTR was not significantly change in IG and CG groups on days of 10 to 70 PI (P≥0.05). Sperm motility was significantly decreased on days 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 PI (p

Fatal attraction in rats infected with Toxoplasma gondii.
We tested the hypothesis that the parasite Toxoplasma gondii manipulates the behaviour of its intermediate rat host in order to increase its chance of being predated by cats, its feline definitive host, thereby ensuring the completion of its life cycle. Here we report that, although rats have evolved anti-predator avoidance of areas with signs of cat presence, T. gondii's manipulation appears t...

Toxoplasmosis is a common parasitic infection in the world. Since increased free radicals and oxidative stress are reported in many parasitic diseases the purpose of the present study was to evaluate the oxidative stress in acute and chronic toxoplasmosis. RH strains of Toxoplasma tachyzoites were used in the present study. Twenty-five female rats were infected with the parasite while 25 other ...

Ocular lesions are a common manifestation of toxoplasmosis in cats. In this survey, 10 healthy Syrianmice were infected through intraperitoneal inoculation of bradyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii (Tehran strain).Mice were killed 30 days after inoculation and the suspension of their brains was prepared, after confirmationof the infection. Seven kittens were fed with the infected mice brain suspensio...

Introduction: Acute Toxoplasmosis is more critical in immunocompromised patients with cancer. The present study was conducted to investigate the anti-Toxoplasma gondi antibodies and assess the toxoplasmosis risk in women with breast masses in western of Iran in 2012. This research was done as a case-control study on women who referred to the treatment centers in cities of Kermanshah and Ilam ...
full textToxoplasma gondii impairs memory in infected seniors.
Almost 30% of humans present a Toxoplasma gondii positive antibody status and its prevalence increases with age. The central nervous system is the main target. However, little is known about the influence of asymptomatic i.e. latent Toxoplasmosis on cognitive functions in humans. To investigate neurocognitive dysfunctions in asymptomatic older adults with T. gondii positive antibody status a do...
full textTranscriptome analysis of mouse brain infected with Toxoplasma gondii.
Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that invades a wide range of vertebrate host cells. Chronic infections with T. gondii become established in the tissues of the central nervous system, where the parasites may directly or indirectly modulate neuronal function. However, the mechanisms underlying parasite-induced neuronal disorder in the brain remain unclear. This study evalu...
